Both evaporation and boiling are evaporation methods that occur in liquids. They differ from one another in terms of speed and state of evaporation. Evaporation is the evaporation of a liquid at room temperature, while boiling refers to the evaporation of a liquid when heated to its boiling point . This is the main difference between vaporizing and boiling.

What is evaporation?

This is a spontaneous process that occurs at room temperature due to the movement of high-energy liquid molecules into the air. Molecules in a liquid have a certain freedom of movement and have different kinetic energies . Therefore, the molecules with higher kinetic energy have a tendency to escape into the gas phase to overcome the stresses that may hold them back. Usually the molecules evaporate on the surface of the liquid because they need a small amount of energy to escape from the liquid phase. However, a smaller percentage of molecules deeper in the liquid can be vaporized provided they have sufficient kinetic energy to pass the surface of the liquid and avoid collisions within the liquid.

Evaporation takes place as long as the air above the liquid remains unsaturated. This means that the air above the liquid should be able to absorb the incoming liquid vapor molecules. These molecules absorb the liquid's thermal energy, which is converted into its kinetic energy. Therefore, when the liquid molecules evaporate, the temperature of the rest of the liquid body drops.

As mentioned above, boiling is the process of evaporation of a liquid as it is heated to its boiling point. The temperature at which a liquid turns into vapor is called the boiling point of the liquid and is a property of the liquid. When heated, the molecules in the liquid can absorb the heat energy provided and increase their kinetic energy. This increases the evaporation rate. This happens as long as the air remains unsaturated. However, when the internal pressure of the liquid is equal to the external pressure (ambient pressure), the conversion of the liquid molecules into vapor is called "boiling".

This process takes place at a constant temperature, and the temperature remains constant until the entire body of liquid changes into its vapor form. In contrast to evaporation, the entire body of liquid takes part in the boiling process.
