Boiling and condensation are two chemical terms used to express phase changes in matter. Boiling is the phase change from liquid to gas. This change occurs at a certain temperature called the boiling point . The boiling point of a pure substance is a unique property for that substance, but when impurities are present the boiling point can change. Condensation is the phase change from gaseous to liquid. It's the opposite of cooking. This phase change is used in some chemical techniques such as reflux. The main difference between boiling and condensation is that boiling is the transition of a liquid to its vapor phase, while condensation is the transition from vapor to its liquid phase.

Boiling is the evaporation of a liquid at a certain temperature. A phase change takes place here from the liquid phase to the gas phase. The boiling point is the temperature at which a liquid boils. In other words, it is the temperature at which the vapor pressure of a liquid is equal to the external pressure exerted on the liquid by the environment.

The boiling point of a liquid varies with atmospheric pressure . Therefore, the value of the boiling point for a given liquid is not always constant. The air pressure varies depending on the altitude. For example, water normally boils at 100 ° C. when the atmospheric pressure is 1 atm. But at higher altitudes , water boils at lower temperatures. This is because the vapor pressure should be atmospheric for a liquid to boil. Since the pressure is lower at higher altitudes, a small amount of thermal energy (temperature) is sufficient to meet the criteria mentioned above.

Even at temperatures below boiling point, liquid molecules turn into vapor due to a process known as evaporation . Evaporation is the escape of liquid molecules that are on the surface of a liquid. These molecules are only loosely bound to the other molecules in the liquid; This allows them to easily detach from other molecules and escape from the liquid as vapor. But when boiling, molecules that are somewhere in the liquid can escape from the liquid.

What is condensation?

Condensation is the conversion of a substance (e.g. water) from a vapor state to a more dense liquid or solid state, usually initiated by lowering the temperature of the vapor. So it is a matter of the phase change of matter from the gas to the liquid phase. It's the opposite of cooking.

The condensation begins with the formation of atomic or molecular clusters. Otherwise, condensation begins when a gaseous phase of a substance comes into contact with a liquid or solid surface.

Condensation can be observed in nature in the water cycle. Therefore, it is a naturally occurring incident. In the water cycle, the water vapor in the air is converted into liquid water. This condensation is responsible for the formation of clouds.
